Book Review of Solving Sophronia

My Review

“Perhaps the real mystery wasn’t the murders but the man solving them.”

Not all detectives wear pants. In fact, some even wear skirts. Detective Jonathan Graham’s new murder case has him stumped, that is before a pretty face and an inquisitive mind barges onto his murder scene.

From the very first page, I couldn’t put this down. I love that although Jonathan had been very against the idea of sucking up his pride and allowing a woman to help with his investigation, he started to trust Lady Sophie Bremerton’s judgement and her ideas. He even sat back a few times just to watch what she might do or say. I think he found her amusing and delighted in her company.

There was great chemistry between the hero and heroine, with hilarious interactions between the characters. I loved Sergeant Lester and his interesting quirk. It brought out a surprising comic relief I did not see coming.

It was so fun to go along on a journey to solve a murder mystery with three awesome characters along every step of the journey. I highly recommend this book, and I’m crossing my fingers that there is a second one in the works.

Book Review of Will O’ the Wisp

will o the wisp book cover

My Review

A past filled with love and heartache. A secret that will change the future forever.

Will O’ the Wisp strikes at the very center of the heart of horse-lovers and brought back a sense of nostalgia for me. In this western romance, the author wove plenty of mystery and secrets that kept me guessing throughout the entire book.

I love the cover. I love the characters. I love the heartbreak and emotional ties between Allison and Shane, and I especially love the relationships formed throughout the book. The ending was so intense that I couldn’t put the book down, not even to sleep! If you haven’t read Will O’ the Wisp, do it! You definitely won’t regret it.

Book Review of Captain of My Heart

My Review

When Robert Jamieson’s nemesis is released from prison, he sends his daughter to London to keep her safe from his clutches. Captain Jack escorts Vivian on his ship, but when feelings start to blossom between the two of them, it’s a boulder they can’t stop from rolling down a hill. She is sucked into Jack’s mission, into the very heart of danger. Full of secrets, danger, and love, Captain of My Heart is a book you won’t be able to put down once you pick it up.

This was one of those books that you feel sad at the end because it ended. I was pulled into the story and never wanted to come back out. The book was filled with intense scenes that had me holding my breath. I loved the interactions between Jack and Vivian. There was great chemistry between them. The slow burn romance was perfectly paced, with adorable scenes that had me laughing and smiling like an idiot.

I loved Vivian’s character. She’s feisty and can handle her own. She has the mouth of a sailor and an unyielding spirit always up for adventure. Only she would be brazen enough to punch a titled lord. Which, by the way, she did a few times. And not the same lord either.

What a great story! This is definitely one of my favorite books that I have read this year.

Book Review of Vanilla with a Twist

My Review

Bad luck (or would you say good luck?) hits the ice cream store, Vanilla with a Twist, when Tandy’s ice cream machine keeps breaking. With little money to spare, she can’t afford to hire someone to fix it. But when a handsome stranger walks in and offers to help for free… She can’t turn an offer like that down. However, her dedication to remaining single for the rest of her life becomes harder and harder when he lights her up like a firework.

This was a very well-rounded story, with a character so scarred from her past that letting someone new in is nearly an impossible task. You can’t help but to love Deacon Withers. He’s handsome, charming, respectful, and he fixes Tandy’s broken appliances for free. Is there a catch to his favors? The only thing he wants to catch is her heart.

Book Review of He Is Watching

My Review

When a stalker decides to make Julie their target, she flees the city she lives in, driving aimlessly until she reaches Vermont. Unfortunately, despite her attempt to shake off her stalker, they find out where she has gone anyway.

Talk about a suspenseful book! I couldn’t stop reading and I really wanted to know what happened next. Oh my. Joe is adorable. There are no words to describe how much I love him! I seriously love a good gentleman sweetheart, and Joe fits the bill perfectly. And his German shepherd companion! Honestly, this book was great, and even made me squeal at the end. A perfect blend of suspense and romance, all wrapped up in a short novella.

Book Review of Bay of Darkness

My Review

From the very start, this book grabbed my attention and held it as I kept turning the pages. Bay of darkness has a great build-up to the final boss fight, with an ending that is incredibly satisfying. And who doesn’t need a good Neal in their life? I absolutely love his character. He was the kind of guy who is not only sweet and gentle, but he is also the kind of person you want by your side during a fight.

Secrets of the past were revealed one by one, each more exciting and complicated than the last. Then the secrets all came together nicely at the end in a very satisfying way. This was such a great read, and I’m definitely looking for more from this author!

Book Review of Elizabeth Barrett and Cupid’s Brooch

My Review

I love the idea of being guided to your true love through a magic brooch. Although the brooch is ugly, it is so much more. I think its outward appearance would deter the haughty and the non-believers, but for those who truly believe in love, they might see the brooch for the magical item it really is.

I really enjoyed watching two people of different time periods try to learn about and fit into the new time period they had traveled to. The interactions between characters was amusing and had me laughing throughout the book. The author did an incredible job at transporting the reader into the story and allowed us to consider small details of everyday life we might not have paid attention to otherwise, especially when being transported back to 1812.

This book was fun and enjoyable to read, and I know others will enjoy it as well!

Book Review of Monster Hunter International

My Review

This. Book. Was. Hilarious. Monster Hunter International just won 2020. Hands down.

When Owen Pitt gets attacked by his boss, who happens to be a werewolf, he is thrown into a world he had never known existed, a world where monsters exist. After killing the werewolf with his bare hands, he is recruited into MHI, or Monster Hunter International. Between his hilarious quips, getting his butt handed to him on more than one occasion, and the best action scenes I have ever read, I am blown away by this book.

Getting into the mind of Owen was highly amusing and had me cracking up every other page. The writing flows so incredibly well. The book has the most incredible fight scenes. The monsters were terrifying. As in it takes at least a hundred bullets to put one monster down. Perhaps a few grenades. And don’t get me started on master vampires…

Thank you, Larry Correia, for writing such an amazing book. You are now one of my favorite authors, and I can’t wait to read more!
