Book Review of Darling, There Are Wolves in the Woods

My Review

The fae stole her sister away ten years ago and it tore her family apart. The only hope she has to save what’s left of her family is to find the sister she isn’t sure deserves saving.

If Holly Black is the Faerie Queen, then L.V. Russell is the Faerie Princess. The author blew my mind with vivid descriptions, pulling me into the dark and ominous world of Faerie. With danger lurking at every turn in the book, I was sucked into the story, wondering how the characters were going to get out of the next impossible scrape.

I adored the unique world building and incredible details that sucked me into the story, shook me up, maybe even drowned me a little bit, and then spit me back out only to endure it again. Darling, There Are Wolves in the Woods is an incredible story of love, heartache, family, and loss, and fans of dark fantasy romance will enjoy reading it!

Book Review of The Cruel Prince by Holly Black

My review

I really expected to fall in love with this book. I’m disappointed that I didn’t.

First of all, this book should have been written in third person to allow for more than one point of view. Without Cardan’s point of view, I felt like I was missing half the story. I got more of it in How the King of Elfhame Learned to Hate Stories, but it didn’t show up in this book. I loved Cardan in that spin-off, especially because I was able to get inside his head. But I wasn’t able to get that in The Cruel Prince.

Second, the book was really hard to get into. The story was interesting. The world-building was intriguing with an Alice in Wonderland type of feel. But I didn’t find myself liking Jude or the way the story often dragged forward. I’m not sure if I want to read the second book in the series, but I might consider it because I liked How the King of Elfhame Learned to Hate Stories.

Book Review of A Court of Wings and Ruin by Sarah J. Maas

Although I didn’t enjoy this book as much as the first and second in the series, it was still definitely worth the read. The focus on war and serious details often gave me a headache as I tried to figure out what was going on and remember who was who. And then suddenly some of the characters were gay or bisexual. I honestly didn’t think it needed to be there. It only distracted from the story, hounding the reader with pages and pages of details that I don’t care to read about when there is a bigger picture in mind.

I would have liked to see Feyre and Tamlin talk at the end. I felt like the ending was too “happy” for what was going on with the battle. And the part after page 666, the same exact thing happened again that happened to Feyre Under the Mountain. It would have been nice to see something different in that regard, some variety.

Also, if the Bone Carver OR the Suriel would have told Feyre she was pregnant or something while the war was just around the corner, now THAT would have been interesting. But I’m sure that will happen much later on instead.

Either way, the book was good, but perhaps too long and filled with unnecessary details. 4 out of 5 stars.
