Hamilton

Okay, so I admit that plays bore me. Sitting through a three hour play is complete torture to me, despite being able to appreciate the hard work and talent that goes into making and performing one.

BUT

Oh my gosh, I will gush and gush and gush about Hamilton on Disney+. I never intended to watch it, but my mom was a huge fan so I decided to give it a shot. It was seriously AMAZING!! The characters brought an incredible depth to the production, inspiring emotions and showing such incredible talent. The songs were amazing, and the way everything and everyone interacted with each other was great.

Short Story: Shadows and Roses

I wanted to kick October off by setting the right mood. Here’s a story I wrote just for fun called Shadows and Roses. Vampires, romance, and breaking a two hundred year old curse! (P.s. I can safely say I’m more of a novel gal. My fingers itched to add at least 50,000 more words to this.)

This is a paranormal retelling of Sleeping Beauty, except the roles are reversed. Enjoy!

Shadows and Roses

A bloodcurdling scream echoed in the skies, scattering a flock of crows toward the dark clouds overhead. Eliana’s heart squeezed as she dropped the bucket in her arms, the water splashing across the bottom of her blue skirt.

“Help!” Hazel screamed again as she staggered down the dirt road, her face pale and her eyes bloodshot.

Eliana joined the other townsfolk at the edge of the road as the twelve-year-old girl stumbled into her mother’s arms. Her arms shook uncontrollably, her breaths coming in labored gasps.

“Someone, fetch a wet cloth!” the mother cried, and Eliana rushed into action. She dipped a cloth into what remained of the water at the bottom of her bucket, and returned to the girl’s side.

“What happened?” she asked as she dabbed at the perspiration on the girl’s forehead. “Did you discover anything more about the curse?”

Her gaze drifted toward the dark clouds swirling overhead, a greenish tint in their gray depths. They gathered above the large gray castle several miles away, suffocating the skies so no sunlight reached their crops. Thorny green vines climbed the castle walls, a warning to stay away. At night, lamenting howls echoed from the direction of the castle, making sleep difficult to come by.

An Interview with Debby Grahl

Can Dillon and Diana elude a killer while their newfound love grows?

Hi Debby, and welcome! I’m excited to have you on my blog today, talking about your new release, Mountain Blaze. How did you get interested in writing fiction?

This began at a young age. I have a disease of the retina called Retinitis Pigmentosa which causes gradual vision loss. I lost the ability to read in my early twenties, but even when I had sight, seeing the printed word was always difficult for me. Reading a book would take me twice as long as  a person with normal sight. I became frustrated with this and began to make up my own stories. I recall entertaining my girlfriends on our way to school, by telling them my latest story. Today, they’re some of my biggest fans.

Book Review of Forever in a Moment by Charlotte O’Shay

My Review

So stinking cute.

I absolutely adored Sam right off the bat. She has such a fun and unique voice that I can’t help but root for her as she stumbles through the surprises fate throws at her. As a character, she was easy to relate to, and her inner reflection episodes were a hoot.

Jed was perfect for her. While she ran, he pursued, and he was never one to give up that pursuit because he knew exactly what he wanted.

Another great addition to the Deerbourne Inn series, one that I finished in less than a day. If you love small town romances with great characters and a romantic setting, then this is the perfect book for you.

My rating: 5 stars

Book Review of Home in Your Arms by Charlotte O’Shay

My Review

This is the second book I’ve read in the Deerbourne Inn series, and I must say what a great series it is so far! The author did a great job at painting the scene and developing well-rounded characters. I always love a serious character whose smiles are rare but whose heart is genuine and so capable of loving. Zane was just that character for me. He and Karla made a great match.

As Karla learns to love again after such a tragic loss, I can’t help but be pulled along in a great narrative full of hope, loss, and love. A fantastic read! I definitely recommend.

Blurb

Aurora Turner embarks on a post-graduate adventure to find her forever family only to be captured by the Sluagh, soul-sucking Fae exiles. While she is grateful to be rescued by the Strawberry shifters, her Prince Not-So-Charming is a little hasty when he starts picking out their wedding china.

My Favorite Things to Do in Autumn

Autumn is the best time of year. The weather turns colder. The leaves turn beautiful shades of red and yellow. And… HALLOWEEN. Need I say more? Here are a few things I love to do in the fall.

Crunch Leaves

Does anyone else go out of their way to crunch leaves as they’re walking down the sidewalk? There’s just something so satisfying about the sound.

Drive Up the Canyon

The Utah mountains are breathtakingly beautiful during the fall. The leaves change color. The air turns cooler. If I don’t take the time to drive up the canyon at least once, I will miss the leaves in literally a blink of an eye.

Welcome Darcy Carson to My Blog!

Thanks for visiting my blog today, Darcy! It’s great to have you here. Let’s get to know you a bit better. Do you have a specific writing routine or process?

I’m a pantser by nature. I write romance, so, of course, there’s always a happy ending and that’s what I write toward. I usually have a beginning. It’s that darn middle that is soooo hard.

What comes first, character or plot?

Probably character. I like to find out what the characters stories are.

Book Review of Spellbound After Midnight by Jenna Collett

I’ve included both covers because I just love both versions for different reasons!!

My Review

A bit of murder. A bit of mystery. A bit of romance. This book caters perfectly to everything I love in a book. The romantic tension is drawn out so well, with the perfect amount of romance to keep the reader interested and wanting more. I loved the characters. Tessa and Derrick had great chemistry. I absolutely loved Tessa’s personality. She’s fiery, confident despite her shortcomings, and her humor is so entertaining.

This book has been on my to-read list for the better part of a year, and I’m SO glad I ended up picking it up. I seriously loved everything about this book. It was perfect. I haven’t read a Cinderella fairy tale retelling quite like this where it’s from the witch’s point of view, and there is a murder mystery to solve.

Loved this book! Looking forward to reading more from this author.

My rating: 5+ stars
